MacGruber Rocked

I normally don't do movie reviews, because I so rarely see new movies.  But I saw MacGruber yesterday, and let me tell you, it totally kicked my ass.  In a word, awesome.  Totally awesome.  It might not be your cup of tea, but if it isn't, you're an idiot who should see it anyway, because you clearly don't know anything about anything and can stand to learn something.  But if you DO know anything about anything, then you should certainly see the movie, because you'll totally love it.

Oh, but if you can, see it at a theater that sells good beer, or perhaps indulge in your own chemical/biological enhancers before the film; as I'm sure that added quite a bit to my enjoyment.  No, it's not the most intelligent film you'll ever see, but you'll wish it was.

MacGruber!

so, a movie that satirizes a tv show that has been off the air for nearly 20 years?

what's next, a cutting satire of "i love lucy"?

Good point, Comrade. I guess the movie wasn't funny after all. Oh wait a minute, yes it was. It was one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

Oh, and no, it's not just a MacGyver satire. It's a satire of the entire action film genre, while MacGruber has little in common with MacGyver.

Oh, and I suppose Austin Powers sucked because it satirized material from three decades earlier. Or Airplane, which was almost a direct rip of a film made twenty years earlier. Or did we forget about those?

Well, Airplane! satirized an entire genre of airport/airplane movies that were not all that old. Airplane! came out in `80 and the most recent one in the disaster pipeline was Airport `77.

Austin Powers, maybe. I didn't think they were that funny.

Airplane was a rewrite of the 1957 film "Zero Hour," about a WWII pilot named Ted Stryker who is afraid to fly, but has to land a crippled jet after the pilots and passengers get food poisoning. In many cases, they took scenes almost directly from the original film and just added a few zingers to it. They even secured the rights to the original, because it was obviously the same film.

The original Austin Powers was brilliant. The other two sucked and I won't even watch them. MacGruber was funnier than the first Austin Powers.

And again, MacGruber is far more than just a parody of MacGyver.
